Unintended Consequences

It seems that the liberal formula for dealing with things is always the same.  Either something is bad so they throw my money at it, or someone is scary so they try to make them out to be stupid and/or evil.  But they never get beyond the immediate, knee jerk reaction.  You ask, “Then What?”  Their eyes just glaze over because they are incapable of thinking anything through to its normal consequence.

Ack!  Old polluting cars on the road!  Bad!  Throw money!  Cash for Clunkers!  Didn’t think about the impact on charities that once received donated cars.  Didn’t think about the effect on the used car market and what that would do to the poor people they claim to love so very, very much.  Never a thought given to the landfills that must take the destroyed vehicles.  Or even the small business owner running a junk yard that will no longer have parts to sell to the blue collar community that just needs to keep their clunker running.  To many people, the absence of a car payment helps their budget a lot more than a $4500 discount.

Enter Sarah Palin.  SCARY SUPREME.  So they tried to make her look stupid.  Remember folks, it’s Tina Fey that can see Russia from her house.  They laughed about her ‘death panel’ comment, and then the US House of Representatives removed that portion of the bill.  The US House of Representatives altered a bill because of a comment made on a private citizen’s Facebook page.  Yeah, that’s what the liberals are afraid of.  This woman has power.  More power now than when they bogged down her office with frivolous ethics complaints.

So some try to make her out to be a liar and the mastermind of a massive cover-up.  Her horrible sin?  Pretending to be the mother of Trig Palin.  That one has been keeping Andrew Sullivan up at night.  I have to wonder if he has thought this through.  I sincerely doubt it.  So let’s say he was actually able to convince anyone that she’s not really Trig’s mother, she’s his grandmother.  So he’s saying that she quietly adopted a special needs child to care for while on the fast track up the political ladder.  To what end?  The world knows she’s the mother of an unwed teenage mother, so it certainly isn’t to boost her image of the perfect nuclear family.  She would know that she would be criticized for continuing her political career with a young special needs child at home. She already had 4 kids, so she didn’t need some pro-life prop.  Do they really want to paint this woman as someone that volunteered to take on a special needs child and has taken great lengths to make sure he always feels like a real member of her family?  Diabolical.  And it gained her nothing.  Bristol would likely still be living with mom and dad.  She could still claim to have a special place in her heart for special needs children were he her grandson.

And so Andrew Sullivan wants to see Trig’s birth certificate.  He talks about how this whole thing could be settled so easily with the release of one little document.  One little document could prove that Sarah Palin’s story is true, or that she’s practically a saint for volunteering to raise a special needs child.  Good one Sully!  That’s sure to help your cause.

And before anyone compares this to the other birth certificate issue out there, you might want to think through the consequences.  On one hand, we’ve got people requesting to see a birth certificate because they just don’t believe she gave birth to this child.  And I must point out the fact that being fertile is not a prerequisite for holding any kind of elected office that I know of.  On the other hand, we’ve got people asking to see a document that will prove whether or not Dear Reader has fulfilled the Constitutional prerequisites for serving as POTUS.  Sure, both sides could settle the questions easily.  Only one really matters.  Unlike Sarah Palin, Dear Reader shouldn’t have the option to answer with, “None of your business.”

No, I’m not a ‘birther’ calling for the release of the document.  I do think it is awful suspicious that they haven’t settled the matter.

Excellent comparison! You really nailed the fundamental difference between conservatives and liberals: to have a point or to not, to think it all the way through or to stop early in the reactionary process. It seems like the vast majority of conservatives are individually analytical, and are able to weigh the facts and use their discrimination (in the definitive sense, not the liberal buzz-word sense) to sort out the cold, hard truth. On the other hand, the vast majority of liberals seem to take advice from each other on face value to determine what is ‘true.’ Once they start asking the hard questions like ’so what?’ they quickly become more conservative in their thinking. Of course, there are exceptions to the general rule, as we all know. I’m pleased to see how well this post came together!
