My Health Is None Of Your Business

It is no one’s business whether or not I have healthcare.

None.  And yet, if the liberals have their way, it suddenly becomes the government’s business.  Yeah, I’ve heard all the nice pretty words about keeping my existing plan and how no one is going to force me to take the government plan, yadda, yadda, yadda.

They just want to make sure every single person has the government mandated minimum amount of care.  They’ll audit my insurance provider.  They’ll audit my employer to make sure they are providing the mandated minimum.  They’ll even audit me personally.  If they find that I don’t have the mandated minimum amount of coverage, they’ll tax me.  But of course, they don’t call it a tax.  They call it a “shared responsibility.”  Excuse me?  I didn’t ask the government to take responsibility for my health.  It’s my responsibility.  Why should I give them money to share in my responsibility?

I get it.  Some people can’t get good health insurance.  Many people are chained to jobs they hate because they can’t afford health insurance otherwise.  I get that.  I really do.  Getting the government more involved is not the answer.

Maybe I want coverage that really is insurance.  I’ll pay for my own regular maintenance type visits.  I just need insurance to kick in when something happens.  Just like my car insurance doesn’t cover oil changes, and my homeowners insurance doesn’t cover new paint.  If more people chose an option like this, it would push medical providers to compete for the maintenance business.  But would that meet the mandatory minimum?

What if government lifted all the regulations on medical insurance providers?  What if they could truly compete on the open market?  Break it out of the employer sponsored system we have now.  I could have more on my paycheck and a plan that really suits my needs.  Most group plans are a one-size-fits-all scenario.  Why on earth would a single man need coverage for child birth?  He doesn’t.  And yet, he’s paying for it.  He’s paying for it in his portion of the premium that is conveniently deducted from his paycheck and in less obvious shortage to his pay due to the increased overhead of his employer.

People who were more directly involved in their own health care and the costs would not need ACORN to promote healthy living and reduce disparities.  And I don’t really need some community organizer approving my grocery list.  It’s really none of your business what I eat and what my alcohol intake is like.  Will it become mandatory to have a vaccine that is linked to a serious and potentially fatal nerve disease?  All in the name of public health you know.  I suppose giving such a risky vaccine that has a greater chance of killing you than the virus it is supposed to protect you from saves cost in the end.  Dead people are no longer a drain on the system.

There was much wailing and gnashing of teeth when the liberals heard about wire tapping in the interest of security.  And yet they have no problem with a group like ACORN approving my exercise routine.
