Labor Day Recoil Therapy

To celebrate our day off work, we decided to meet forum friends at the local range.  Hubby wrote about it today too.  I have the pictures though.

Here is the kiddo shooting his Ruger 10/22 with the new Tech Sights.

And the results

He was proud

And here I am with my shotgun. Unfortunately, my camera does not record sound. That is a Winchester Defender 12ga. I’m just running bird shot today since it’s cheap and fun.

Not sure whether or not you can tell, but I’m taking advantage of the unique properties of the Speed Pump on my breach loads. I am throwing the shell into the breach and running the fore forward. I let go of the fore and reach for the next shell while taking the shot. The recoil runs the fore back and ejects the spent shell. Pretty sweet. You don’t have to be a hoss of a woman to manage a 12ga. You’ve just got to know what you’re doing and not be afraid of it.

After the jump, you can see Michael doing the same with his Winchester 120 Ranger. Same action.

Unfortunately, his targets were being disagreeable, so I couldn’t get as much video of him. Here he is again, but he dropped the target before he had the opportunity to show off his breach loading skills. If he ever has to use it against a non-paper goblin, I hope it works out so quickly.

A good time was had by all.

And then we got home and discovered that someone had stolen the kiddo’s bike. Grr. This has always been a safe neighborhood. After walking the neighborhood, I drove around and asked some kids. Hopefully, it will be back soon. I offered a reward based on the speed at which it was returned to the kid with about a dozen bikes in his yard. This is a good neighborhood, but not really the income level that supports a dozen bikes. Not that I’m jumping to any conclusions…

  1. Yay for the Winchester Defender! I have a 20ga and I LOVE it! I would take it to the skeet range, and all the old guys would give me funny looks. “We need to get you a bigger gun!” one said to me. I told him I just needed to learn how to use the one I had, and was there for the fun of it. He told me that he didn’t want me to get frustrated that I couldn’t hit anything with such a short barrel. 🙂

I wasn’t great at it, but I did surprise some of them with what I could hit. 🙂

  2. Sorry about the kiddo’s bike, that really sucks. At least he had a good time at the range.

Still haven’t had a chance to take Bruce out and drop some shells through him 🙁

  3. Oh, man! Just read all the way to the bottom. . .Maybe Mimi needs to be sicced on the bike thief. Talk about GRRRRRRR! Don’t mess with MY guys! As Dr. Laura (Schlessinger) used to say–watch out for “Mama Bear”
