I Don’t See This Moving To The Right Thing

What’s over there on this proverbial right anyway? Is that where everyone’s all concerned about what everyone else is doing with their gender specific parts? Oh wait! That’s both sides.

Politics are not sexy, so can we please not politicize sex?

No, what I see is an ever widening rift in people that call themselves conservatives.  There’s the Goldwater conservatives that believe in small government and the free market and then there’s the social conservatives.  More and more, the social conservatives seem more interested in their agenda than they are in liberty.

Little worries me more than when some talking head takes the stage and proclaims themselves a Christian Conservative.  You see, I am a Christian, and I am a Conservative.  The two are separate.  I believe it is good and wholesome to attend church on Sunday mornings.  I really and truly believe our communities would be stronger were each and every person a part of a church family.  BUT! I would rail against any candidate for any office that pushed a bill to force everyone to attend even if they were given free choice of what flavor of services. Also, you should not have to pay to get me to church.

I believe the bed-hopping ways of some college coed are likely immoral and also none of my damn business. I also believe that whatever costs are associated with aforementioned bed-hopping should be the responsibility of the bed-hoppers.

It bothers me that the social conservatives concern themselves with such things.  That is not the business of government. And so I find myself staring across an ever widening chasm where those on both sides think themselves ‘right’, and I want less and less for the rift to be closed again.  I’m not looking for a unify-er.  But it’s awful hard to find a candidate among those that just want to be left alone.

The right’s existence is all the reason he needs.

This from US District Court Judge Benson Everett Legg  in his ruling on Woollard v. Sheridan which challenged May Issue in the State of Maryland.  SAF press release here.

U.S. District Court Judge Benson Everett Legg noted, “In addition to self-defense, the (Second Amendment) right was also understood to allow for militia membership and hunting. To secure these rights, the Second Amendment‘s protections must extend beyond the home: neither hunting nor militia training is a household activity, and ‘self-defense has to take place wherever [a] person happens to be’.”

“A citizen may not be required to offer a ‘good and substantial reason’ why he should be permitted to exercise his rights,” Judge Legg wrote. “The right’s existence is all the reason he needs.”

This is what common sense looks like. It’s obvious that you can’t go hunting in your home, nor can you participate in a militia.  And criminals looking to do you harm don’t send out meeting requests in advance.

School Me On Cameras

Les, Oleg-I’m specifically looking at you here.

Alright, the background.  Forever ago, my camera was a tough little Olympus Stylus 600. It did its duty with snapshots and the like.  And it’s an all-weather camera so I never had to worry about getting it out in the rain.  When TheHolsterSite was born, it even spent some time trying its best to take nice shots. And it was passable.

But oh the noise! And the hot spots.

There are hot spots
Or a strangely velvety texture. And yeah, there's my butt again.

Or with the more colorful options, we’ve got washed out or distorted.  Clearly, it was time for a change. Enter the Nikon Coolpix P80.

A Vote For Rick Santorum Is A Vote For Tyranny

And the worst kind of tyranny at that.

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under the robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.” C.S. Lewis

“Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they’re sure trying to do so, it’s going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can’t and won’t compromise. I know, I’ve tried to deal with them.” Barry Goldwater

Compare and contrast

“One of the criticisms I make is to what I refer to as more of a Libertarianish right.  They have this idea that people should be left alone, be able to do whatever they want to do, government should keep our taxes down and keep our regulations low, that we shouldn’t get involved in the bedroom, we shouldn’t get involved in cultural issues. That is not how traditional conservatives view the world.” Rick Santorum

Really Rick? I don’t really have a problem with Rick Santorum’s personal moral code.  I have a problem with him wanting to inflict it everyone else using the strong arm of the government.

Sure, who doesn’t want strong families, solid marriages, and involved fathers? Truly, the world would be a better place.  Just wait until the government does for your marriage what it did for GM. Or the housing market.  Or health care.  Or public education.

Thanks, but no thanks.  I’d rather be left alone.

Yep, I’m voting for Ron Paul tomorrow.  I’d better make sure my wookie suit is ready.

Knock! Knock!

The men knocked on a door in the 3900 block of N.W. 11th near Roff Avenue yelling that they were the police, according to officers.

But those are magical words that can only be uttered by bonafide police officers! Right?

So what gun harpoon for officer impersonator? What caliber chainsaw is appropriate?

The men then tried to duct tape the couple’s hands, say police.

Both of the intruders had guns, according to Oklahoma City Police Sgt. Gary Knight.

The Basnet told KOCO Eyewitness News 5’s Maggie Stokes that she used a bottle to strike one of the men in the head, but he was unfazed.

She then says she used a chainsaw to hit one of the intruders. The home is currently under construction.

“I thought my boyfriend was gonna get hurt really bad and so was I,” said Basnet.

Basnet’s boyfriend then used a fishing spear to strike one of the men.

The home invader was wearing a bulletproof vest, but the victim says he was able to stab the man under his arm.

(Poorly written article here. Contains jewels like “The Basnet” from the quote and “Police say Basnet and her boyfriend would not them to search the home.”)

Unfortunately, he was not able to reel him in, but he’ll always talk about the ones that got away.

If guys in ski masks break into your home, fight back with whatever is handy.  Firearms tend to be more effective than harpoons and chainsaws, however.

Police said the woman called 911 and reported that a man was breaking into her home. When police arrived, they found the man had been shot to death.

The woman told police that she shot the man, investigators said.

The incident was under investigation.

And they make for easier investigations.

RIP Andrew Breitbart

You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.

– Winston Churchill

No one could ever doubt that Andrew Breitbart stood for something, sometime in his life.  Just look at the enemies he had.

My heart goes out to his friends and family.  He was quite the firebrand, and I just have to like anyone that can piss off the left like that.

He was far too young.  And yeah, there is a reading on the ol’ tinfoil hat-o-meter.
